You might have heard this on today’s news, or know about it for a while. There are electric motorcycles and scooters already in production and people are using them, it’s obviously very quiet, but whether or not it’s worth the money… read more.

[tubepress mode='tag', tagValue='electric motorcycle', resultsPerPage='12']

Electric motorcycles and scooters are rising in popularity because of higher gasoline prices. Battery technology is gradually improving making this form of transportation more practical.[3]

Disadvantages:

1. Up front costs are higher than for a comparable gasoline powered motorcycle or scooter.
2. Shorter range before recharging.
3. Longer “fill up” or recharge time.
4. Lower maximum speed at similar price points.
5. Electric power outlets are often not conveniently located near streets or driveways. It is often difficult or impossible to bring the battery into an apartment, for example, for recharging.
6. Battery capacity can be as low as 20% on a cold winter day with -20 °C (lead battery)
7. As it is already difficult to be “noticed” by cars/trucks on a motorcycle, the loss of characteristic engine noise might make riding these even more dangerous than their internal combustion engine powered counterparts.

Advantages of electric over gasoline power:

1. The fuel costs for electric power are approximately 25% the cost of gasoline power (US, mid-2008; see Electric car, “Running costs” for the calculation)[4]
2. Nearly silent.
3. Environmental friendly (no exhausted gases at point of use)
4. Using grid power to charge batteries causes less pollution than gasoline scooters; the amount of emissions caused depends on the sources of the electricity used.
5. No trips needed to a gas station– can be recharged at home or in charging stations.
6. It can be used in a V2G system.
7. Lower maintenance costs and fewer maintenance activities; for example, there is no need to change the oil.
8. Can be ridden indoors.
9. More affordable than electric cars.

Well, the title said it, $1,400 for a brand new Tomahawk replica made in China. Dodge Tomahawk is a concept vehicle from the automaker Dodge. Although it seemed like a motorcycle to break the land speed record, which had four wheels, and therefore belong to the category of most quads and ATV, Motorcycle.
Only 10 of these 8275cc, 500hp beasts were sold by Dodge and to a whopping $ 550,000 from the U.S. each (Rs 23100000)!

While the Dodge Tomahawk was assigned to the pages of automotive history, a little-known motorcycle company in China, KMD Television decided to produce an ATV based on the Dodge Tomahawk, known as the K-007:

Made in China version below

This Chinese 149.6cc ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) is only U.S. $ 1400 (Rs 59,000), ie ~ 392 one can buy these for the price of a Dodge Tomahawk and although it might not have as much power or in fact be as much fun as the trip Tomahawk, we believe that we can gain the most the second thing that looks original!

Although we do not support this type of design blatant act of theft, but we have to ask to the imagination and ingenuity of those Chinese manufacturers who are attempting to make their vehicles just as good as the vehicles around the world, if not in performance and quality, at least in the looks and design department.

EAST TROY, Wis. (January 23, 2006) – Erik Buell and company come full circle with the introduction of the 2007 Buell XBRR, a limited-edition production racing motorcycle designed exclusively for closed course competition. A spiritual successor to Buell’s first motorcycle, the 1983 RW750, the XBRR is poised to change the face of privateer racing with a professional-level, race-ready, production-based platform featuring top-shelf racing technology and typical Buell innovation.

“The XBRR combines the current culmination of Buell’s leading edge chassis technology and Harley-Davidson’s air-cooled V-Twin powertrain development in a platform designed by and developed for dedicated racers,” said Erik Buell, Chairman and Chief Technical Officer, Buell Motorcycle Company.
